I Confronted A Bit Of Discrimination After I Began As A Commentator In England

Former India wicket-keeper Farokh Engineer revealed that he’d been subjected to discriminative and derogatory remarks when he was in England, first as a participant after which a commentator.

Farokh Engineer, who performed for a very long time in Lancashire within the ’70s and lived in England for the remainder of his life, opened up about discrimination and racism in England after the latest occasion of Azeem Rafiq’s emotional testimony to the Digital, Tradition, Media and Sport (DCMS) Choose Committee on Tuesday relating to racism he confronted at Yorkshire County Cricket Membership which has taken the English board by storm.

“There have been events once I overheard one or two feedback, snide remarks from them about me which have been distasteful,” Farokh Engineer advised TOI from Manchester on Wednesday.

“It was obvious that they didn’t need me due to my color, my Indian heritage. They didn’t anticipate me to overhear it. After I confronted them about it, they shut up immediately,” he acknowledged.

After studying in regards to the racial tradition at Yorkshire from Azeem Rafiq’s statements, the 83-year-old stated he felt lucky that he performed for Lancashire and never Yorkshire. Farokh Engineer added that he didn’t face racism at Lancashire.

“Thank God I performed for the ‘Crimson Rose’ (Lancashire), AND NOT the ‘White Rose’ (Yorkshire). Through the years, there have been all kinds of rumours happening about Yorkshire. I’ve heard many issues, however not skilled something personally,” the Mumbai-born recalled.

His former Lancashire captain, David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd, and Ashes-winning England skipper Michael Vaughan, too, have come underneath fireplace from Azeem Rafiq.
